Quite a while back, I wrote about free anti virus options. Well since then there has been a major entry into the market by the folks responsible for all the security holes in the first place, Microsoft. With a security suite named “Microsoft Security Essentials” they provide free anti virus and malware protection for windows xp and higher. I have used it on several machines and it preforms as advertised, however I still wonder if Microsoft is trustworthy enough not to screw up anti virus as much as they have screwed up their OS. If you want to give it a try it is available at http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

Saturday, December 5th, 2009My first try at making a font…
Sunday, February 8th, 2009Thanks to Command N for tipping me off to yourfonts.com. Your fonts allows you to create your own font just by printing out the template, scanning it and then uploading it back to their servers. All in all I found the process to be quite easy, however you must carefuly fill out the template because it is rather exact. What you fill out on the template is what you get. As you can see my first try leaves a bit to be desired, but I think with a bit of pratice I can get it. It isn’t a professional font but it is still fun.
I think that the only thing that could improve this service would be to have a mode for error correction… i.e. as you can see in my example the letters are not quite lined up. The error correction would take letters that should be traditionally level with eachother and make them lined up. Of course, this should be a mode that can be turned on or off based on the font you are creating. For a free tool though, that was the only thing that I saw lacking.

My first font...
The font you get is in the ttf file and is quite cool. This service is run by High Logic BV and is basically a in to sell their font tools… but is still a cool freebie.
